He is no stranger to the backyard. His name is synonymous with the UBW and it’s intermediate sisters UWA and IBW. The Fallen, or David Dalton as he is known, has held over six UWA and IBW championships, ranging from the covenant UWA Heavyweight title (now known as the UBW World Championship) to the Albuquerque Championship, the very title he holds and will be putting on the line against up and comer Pyro, this next week, August 31st at Backyard Brawl.
The Fallen, found his true launch into backyard stardom in late 2002 upon joining the uprising Untied Backyard Wrestling. Soon after his arrival The Fallen found himself main eventing and tag teaming with the likes of Big Poppa Peepers and defending the now defunct UBW United States Championship and honor of the once-powerful Stevens Regime (which included owner Gregory Stevens, Big Poppa Peepers, Alex Andreuws and The Fallen). As the UBW gained in popularity so did The Fallen, main eventing weekly shows and putting on one of the most memorable matches at the historical Backyard Brawl II. It was at ‘Brawl 2 where The Fallen lost his United States title once again, to up and coming UBW superstar Sizzlin’ Steve Anderson. Following the event The Fallen was faced with inner struggles and requested time off.
Departure and Return to the UBW
“I went in and request time off.” The Fallen recalled in a 2004 interview with UBWWrestling.com. “And Stevens basically, in the utmost impolite way, told me to go f–k myself.” The Fallen was ousted from the company and it was believed the days of The Fallen where over. After a rapid rise to the top of the UBW rankings, The Fallen was once on the outside peering in. Weeks pasts and tempers cooled. “UBW has agreed to a new deal with superstar David Dalton” read headlines in May 2004. Just weeks after terminating the former Untied States Champion, UBW had apologized and welcomed back The Fallen. Donning a new darker persona and mysterious music, The Fallen charged back into the UBW and slowly rose back to his deserved spot despite criticism from longtime foes. Despite the naysayers, The Fallen rose and fought back just in time to hear the announcement that UBW would be ceasing operations.
In March 2005, Backyard Brawl 3 marked the end of the UBW, but not the end of backyard wrestling. Backstage friends but on-screen foes, The Fallen and Big Daddy Dave Johnson formed together to create United Wrestling Alliance, or the UWA. During the same time Josh Burns, Big Poppa Peepers and few other UBW-alumnus got together on the other side of town at the weekly IBW or Independent Backyard Wrestling show. After years of separation the two joined together under the banner of UWA, The Fallen once again faced off with longtime arch nemesis’ and catapulted his name to the top of the backyard.
Staying in the Present
Come Backyard Brawl 4, challenger Pyro could join the large list of victims that The Fallen has claimed or very well could ink his name on the much shorter list of those who have captured a title from The Fallen. At Backyard Brawl, The Fallen will be bringing Pyro to the school, the old school to be cheesy but more aptly, correct. History could loom it’s dirty little head and once again prove fatal for The Fallen’s title reigns, or it could stay true to overall impressive win-loss record of The Fallen, and prove to everyone once again, why The Fallen is truly on the rise.
