Des Moines, Iowa — In a truly shocking moment, those “who did create hardcore; but made it look good” returned to the backyard in a truly shocking and unique fashion. On that fateful day the UWA lockerroom was defending it’s very exsistence against the angry, sadisdic, and somestimes sinister rouge promotion IBW, Independent Backyard Wrestling. However all bets where off when UWA faithful AJAX announced that it wasn’t IBW nor UWA that would prevail but instead the UBW would return home…
That’s right. United Backyard Wrestling is back, but in all honesty, has it really gone anywhere?
“While I have always respected what [the UWA] has accomplished and produced, many of it’s core basics reminded myself and others of the UBW,” said former UBW CEO Gregory Stevens; whom is now a public member of the championship committee. Many agree, while the UWA and even the IBW during it’s tenure were similar to the antics of United Backyard Wrestling, each individual promotion brought something different to the table. Whether it be UWA’s comedic antics and strong following; or IBW and it’s hardcore wrestling style that somehow blended harmonisoly with a adequate technical sound; all have represented UBW well in one way or another.
While on hiatus since the end of Backyard Brawl 3 in late March 2005, UBW has not been dead, it has not even been sleeping, it’s been right in front of us in the way the talent continues the characters, legacy and lineage of their mothership, the promotion the launched new ideas and memories over the last four years. Now, finally, all of these things, the fans and the wrestlers can back home as the cherished backyard innovators look to showcase their potentional and skills in a new exciting frontier.
